New Year, New Window Styles and Miami Design Trends

January 11, 2017

This time of year is the perfect time to revamp your interior fashion and window treatments with the best new styles of 2017. From painting your living room, to buying new window coverings or changing out furniture, we have the guide to what’s fashionable in 2017 for home fashion and window treatment trends in Miami.

Dusky Colors & Pastels

Both pastels and dusky hues are growing in popularity while clear, vibrant colors are on the wane. Shades of gray, blue and green are especially popular in addition to muted hues of pink, blue, and yellow. Many shades on the spectrum are reminiscent of nature from sky blue to “Greenery”, Pantone’s color of the year. Neutral colors are still found throughout the color spectrum with whites, grays and darker beiges giving balance to other tones.

The easiest way to update the color in your home might be to paint some of your walls a neutral tone and add in pops of colors through feature walls, accessories, and small furnishings. Then it’s easy to use the latest colors in your home now and swap the little things out when color schemes switch down the road. When thinking about new window treatments, go with ones in neutral tones such as Polywood® plantation shutters in white or a natural wood color stain. These will match any style or color scheme and won’t need to be changed if you swap room colors down the line.

New Trends in Textures

Natural textures aren’t going anywhere this year. Fibers that are popular include woven rugs and baskets, rustic wood, and twine. We’re seeing these textures showing up in new places including on headboards, furniture, and pieces of art. You can easily incorporate what you already own and add texture to it such as wrapping a frame in twine or creating artwork from old wood.

Incorporating texture into your design through window treatments add another layer of interest to your décor. Reclaimed wood shutters are built using aged, knotted wood that was once part of fences or structures. The wood has unique grains and divots that bring an all-natural quality to your house. Additional window coverings that add texture include Ovation® wood shutters or natural woven shades.

Metals

Furniture, hardware, and accessories that incorporate multiple metals are showing up across Miami. Wrought iron, brass, and nickel are especially stylish in 2017. You can incorporate metals in your décor by finding industrial, homespun, and retro pieces such as bar stools, chairs, or light fixtures that are built from metals. Also, don’t be afraid to use nickel or brass in your faucets or hardware for a more contemporary aesthetic.

Sliding barn doors and barn door shutters are a great way to get the visual benefit of metals and add a streamlined or rustic style to your space. Barn doors are constructed from solid wood and have a variety of hardware to choose from such as wheels, tracks, and door handles that are made of different metals.
